The monkey’s fist is a traditional spherical knot used at sea to weight the end of a heaving line so the line can be thrown easily from the deck to the quay or to another boat. Ours are tied by hand from polypropylene rope into a tight, full knot. Polypropylene is light, floats on water, does not rot and resists moisture.
